A number of concertos (as well as non-concerto works) have been written for the oboe, both as a solo instrument as well as in conjunction with other solo instrument(s), and accompanied by string orchestra, chamber orchestra, full orchestra, concert band, or similar large ensemble. These include concertos by the following composers:
"Legacy" is an oboe concerto composed by Óscar Navarro in 2015. The oboist Ramón Ortega Quero commissioned the piece in 2013 after hearing and enjoying Navarro's Segundo concierto para clarinete y orquesta. [1] It was premiered on 17 April 2015 in Herford with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie under Manuel Gómez López. [2]

The Oboe Concerto is a concerto for oboe and orchestra by the American composer Christopher Rouse. The work was commissioned by the Minnesota Orchestra and completed in 2004. [ 1 ] The piece premiered in 2009 with oboist Basil Reeve and the Minnesota Orchestra performing under conductor Osmo Vanska .
Considered by many to be the most difficult of all the musical instruments, the oboe is often called the "ill wind that no one blows good." Oboist Thomas Gallant is one of the world's few virtuoso solo and chamber music performers on this instrument and he has been praised by The New Yorker magazine as "a player who unites technical mastery with intentness, charm and wit."
