The school continues to coordinate with Bexley London Borough Council for admissions. St. Columba's Catholic Boys' School has a sister school, St. Catherine's Catholic School for Girls, which is on a separate site nearby. Following a short inspection of the school on 23 January 2019 James Whiting, the Ofsted Inspector, ranked the school 'good'.

The original Parklands school building dates back to 1950 and that building still forms part of the current school. The building has been extended and developed several times over the years most notably with a new wing added in 1990 and then a further section in 1995, both opened by the then MP for Bexley Sir Edward Heath .
On 1 September 2011, Bexleyheath School became Bexleyheath Academy, sponsored by the London Academies Enterprise Trust (LAET), part of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) family of schools. Headmaster Malcolm Noble retired after 14 years in the 2007 Summer term. He was replaced on an interim basis by Paul O'Brien.
