Amanzimtoti, locally nicknamed Toti, [2] and officially renamed to eManzimtoti, is a coastal town just south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.Situated along the Sapphire Coast, the town is well known for its warm climate and numerous beaches, and is a popular tourist destination, particularly with surfers.
Roodepoort has seen large population growth due to Johannesburg urban sprawl. There are two major malls in the area - Clearwater Mall, the most upscale in Roodepoort, and Westgate Mall, the largest and oldest. Also found in the area is the Hillfox Centre and the Strubens Valley strip malls, which are both large retail centres.
The river was once flanked by extensive marsh-lands and reed-beds, but these were filled in to build the town centre and a rubbish dump. The rubbish dump was later covered over and developed into sports fields. At one time it was possible to travel by boat from the town centre to the River Gardens Hotel, which was a popular Sunday activity.
By the 1908 Games, the first venue for swimming that was not in a lake or a river took place. [4] It was not until 1920 Games that a separate venue was created for the aquatic events. [ 5 ] The first venue where indoor swimming took place was after World War II at London in 1948 .

It was formerly under the Roodepoort Municipality until 1994, when it was merged with Soweto. Dobsonville is an important but understudied suburb of Soweto. Its roots lie in the "old location" in Roodepoort. Between 1955 and 1967 this location was gradually destroyed through government forced removals.
