With a 3-1 victory over Pownal Red Devils the team advanced to the gold medal game where they came up short losing to Chester Clippers 7-3. In 2015 the Baffin Blizzard became the first Hockey North team to capture the championship. Baffin went 2-2-0 in the round robin before defeating Western Valley Panthers 3-1 in the semifinal.
The South Side Lynx were founded in 2009. As with many expansion franchises, they struggled in their early years, never advancing past the first round of the playoffs until season three in 2011–12, where they were eliminated by Pownal Red Devils in the semifinals.
On April 14, 2012, the tenth anniversary of the tournament, Nunavut's Kivalliq Canucks defeated Prince Edward Island's Pownal Red Wings 3–1 to become the first Hockey North-based team in the tournament's history to make the final.
