In 1888, a public school opened with JH Sheppard as teacher. The first half of the 20th century saw much growth for the Union Grove School, with the creation of the Union Grove Common School District, No. 42 in 1907. In 1909, 1920, and 1933, new buildings were constructed on the current site of the UG Elementary School.
Union Grove was also recognized in 2015 as a Top AP School. Union Grove High School is the only school in Henry County Schools to be named an AP Merit school by the College Board. Union Grove was also named by the College Board as an AP STEM, AP Humanities, AP STEM Achievement and AP Honors School for the 10th consecutive year in 2016.

For the first time, the Union Grove school opened on September 14, 1925, with 67 high school students. The high school continued until 1966 when high schools in Iredell County where consolidated. The elementary and junior high students remained at Union Grove School, until 1991, when a consolidated middle school opened. [2] [6] [7]

Union High School. Union Public Schools has five secondary schools, including an alternative school: Union 6th/7th Grade Center is located on 61st street. The first phase of the school, the Union Seventh Grade Center, was completed in 1993. The Sixth Grade Center was finished the following year. The school serves both sixth and seventh graders.
