Golden Village's first cinema opened in Singapore on 28 May 1992, with the opening of the Yishun 10 complex. In 1998, Golden Village opened a cinema at Great World City, GV Grand, with six screens, including a Gold Class Hall. In the early 2000s, one of the halls was converted into an IMAX theatre, but it closed down in 2004 due to low patronage.

CJ Golden Village was jointly established in 1996 by CJ Cheil Jedang of South Korea, Orange Sky Golden Harvest of Hong Kong and Village Roadshow of Australia. However, now it is operated by CJ only as Golden Harvest and Village Roadshow have pulled out of the group. CGV opened the first multiplex in Gangbyeon in 1998.
The last day of movie screenings at Yishun 10 was 11 August 2010 to undergo a three-month renovation from 12 August 2010 to upgrade the multiplex. In November 2010, the renovation had been completed and multiplex was renamed GV Yishun, which was Golden Village first "green" cinema complex. [3]
Released in cinemas on 7 May 1998, the film received mixed reviews from critics but earned over S$5.8 million and was the all-time highest-grossing Singaporean film until 2012.
