The J. B. Owens Pottery Company was founded in Roseville, Ohio, in 1885 by J. B. Owens. After moving to Zanesville, it produced art pottery from 1896 to around 1910, after which Owens concentrated on manufacturing tiles instead. Owens Pottery produced around four dozen different lines, mainly of vase, bowls, and pitchers.
Owens Pottery was founded by J. B. Owens in Roseville, Ohio, in 1885. [1] In 1891 it moved to Zanesville , where Owens built a new factory on a site with its own rail spur. [ 2 ] It began producing art pottery in 1896, when it introduced the Utopian line with botanical decorations under a brown glaze. [ 3 ]
The dates of composition of the books range from the 7th-century Quran leaf palimpsest and the early 8th-century St Cuthbert Gospel, to a 21st-century autograph manuscript of J. K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard. The earliest printed book in the list is a Southern Song annotated woodblock edition of the Book of Tang printed c. 1234.
The business continued some traditions of the original pottery, such as ovoid vessel shape and the use of a groundhog kiln, but added new techniques. There are five major differences between pottery made at the original site and that produced by H. Wilson & Co. The most obvious was the near-exclusive use of salt glazing.
