Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) initiative that encourages private industry and federal agencies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses through hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training; and cooperation between management and workers.
The Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association, Inc. (VPPPA), is a nonprofit association of cooperative safety and health management systems. It organizes the largest VPP education event of the year, and promotes occupational health and safety. Membership with the association is established on a site-by-site basis.
The Bureau of Labor Standards of the Department of Labor has worked on some work safety issues since its creation in 1934. [4] Economic boom and associated labor turnover during World War II worsened work safety in nearly all areas of the United States economy, but after 1945 accidents again declined as long-term forces reasserted themselves. [5]
