The Papua New Guinea Forest Authority (PNGFA) was established in 1993 under the Forestry Act, 1991. It replaced the former Department of Forest and unified all the Provincial Forest Divisions and the Forest Industries Council. This restructuring was the result of the 1989 Barnett Commission of Inquiry into forestry in Papua New Guinea.
The Papua and New Guinea Development Bank (which later became the National Development Bank Limited of Papua New Guinea) commenced operations on 6 July 1967 from an office in Port Moresby. [1] The Bank played a significant role in the economic development of the country immediately prior to and after it achieved independence on 16 September 1975.
The total number of Ministers comprising the National Executive Council is never to be less than a quarter of the National Parliament. [5] There is a Secretary to the National Executive Council, who is responsible to the Prime Minister and is charge of the council Secretariat. [6] In addition, a Senior Minister position exists on an ad hoc basis.
The Tonda Wildlife Management Area is a wetland of international importance [3] and the largest protected area in Papua New Guinea. [4] It is located in the south-western corner of the Western Province and is contiguous with Wasur National Park of Indonesia. It forms part of the Trans Fly savanna and grasslands ecoregion.
There are 22 provincial-level divisions, which include 20 provinces, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, and the National Capital District of Port Moresby. In 2009, the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea created two additional provinces, that officially came into being on 17 May 2012. [1]
