Frederick Hartt (May 22, 1914 – October 31, 1991) was an Italian Renaissance scholar, author and professor of art history.His books include History of Italian Renaissance Art, Art: A History of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture (two volumes), Michelangelo (Masters of Art Series), The Sistine Chapel and The Renaissance in Italy and Spain (Metropolitan Museum of Art Series).
Art: A History of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture is a two-volume collection of general art history written by Frederick Hartt. Volume I covers from the paleolithic cave paintings to late medieval art. Volume II starts at the Renaissance and ends with modern art. It was originally published in 1976 by Harry N. Abrams.
A series of art movements in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—notably Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, and Dadaism—challenged the Renaissance view of the world. Richard Muther (1860–1909) was a German critic and historian of art. He was born 25 February 1860 in Ohrdruf in Germany and died 28 June 1909 in Wölfelsgrund (now in Poland). He studied at Heidelberg and at Leipzig, where he took his doctor's degree. In 1895 he became professor of art history at the University of Breslau. [1]
