John Fergus Slattery (born 12 February 1949 in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland) is a former rugby union player who represented Ireland. An open-side flanker, he played schools rugby for Blackrock College and then moved on to play senior rugby for UCD , before earning a call up to the Ireland team in 1970.
The Barbarians selected a strong team for the match; 12 of the starting line-up had been part of the British Lions' touring party to New Zealand in 1971.In keeping with Barbarians tradition, English lock Bob Wilkinson and Welsh flanker Tommy David were uncapped for their countries, while Llanelli RFC's Phil Bennett was the heir apparent to the now-retired Barry John at fly-half.
