Rang De Basanti is a 2006 Indian drama film written and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.It features an ensemble cast comprising Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth Narayan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and British actress Alice Patten in the lead roles.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (born 7 July 1963) is an Indian film director, occasional actor and screenwriter. He is best known for writing and directing the drama Rang De Basanti (2006) and the biographical sports film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), winning two Filmfare Awards for Best Director.

The soundtrack to the 2006 film Rang De Basanti was released by Sony Music Entertainment on 8 December 2005 and had its music composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics in Hindi and English by Prasoon Joshi and rapper Blaaze.
Prasoon Joshi was signed as the lyricist, thus reuniting the trio after Rang De Basanti (2006) and Ghajini (2008). But once the production was delayed, Rahman and Prasoon Joshi opted out of the project citing scheduling conflicts. [61] The music of the film was composed by Amit Trivedi while the lyrics of the film were written by Kausar Munir.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna led the ceremony with 25 nominations, followed by Rang De Basanti with 22 nominations, Omkara with 16 nominations and Krrish with 14 nominations. Rang De Basanti won 7 awards, including Best Film and Best Director (for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra ), thus becoming the most-awarded film at the ceremony.
