I believe that if you will check, the K Marts were NOT an outgrowth of the S.H. Kress Company, they were the outgrowth of the S.S. Kresge stores. The Chairman of the Board and Acting President of S.H. Kress (William B. Sutherland) resigned in 1959 or 1960 because Kress would NOT move their stores from downtown to the suburbs in the mart style.
