There are one district and two individual properties listed on the National Register in the county. All sites are Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks, and one site is also a State Antiquities Landmark.
Dimmitt, Texas has a history dating back to March 1890 when the Bedford Town and Land Company purchased land and established the townsite. H. G. Bedford oversaw the sale of lots, and the town was named after his brother-in-law Rev. W.C. Dimmitt. The town faced competition for the county seat but was voted county seat on December 18, 1891. [6]
The XIT Ranch was a cattle ranch in the Texas Panhandle which operated from 1885 to 1912. Comprising over 3,000,000 acres (12,000 km 2 ) of land, it ran for 200 miles (300 km) along the border with New Mexico , varying in width from 20 to 30 miles (30 to 50 km).

Big Wells is located in northeastern Dimmit County at (28.570970, –99.570399 Texas State Highway 85 passes through the community, leading east 26 miles (42 km) to Dilley and Interstate 35 , and west 18 miles (29 km) to Carrizo Springs , the Dimmit County seat.
