Gabapentin, sold under the brand name Neurontin among others, is an anticonvulsant medication primarily used to treat partial seizures and neuropathic pain. [ 7 ][ 10 ] It is a commonly used medication for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and central pain. [ 11 ]
Gabapentin at a low dose of 100 mg has a T max (time to peak levels) of approximately 1.7 hours, while the T max increases to 3 to 4 hours at higher doses. [1] The T max of pregabalin is generally less than or equal to 1 hour at doses of 300 mg or less. [1]

Tofisopam [3] (Emandaxin, Grandaxin, Sériel) is an anxiolytic that is marketed in several European countries. [4] Chemically, it is a 2,3-benzodiazepine. Unlike other anxiolytic benzodiazepines (which are generally 1,4- or 1,5-substituted) however, tofisopam does not have anticonvulsant, sedative, [5] skeletal muscle relaxant, motor skill-impairing or amnestic [6] properties.
The newer drugs tend to have fewer side effects. [41] For newly diagnosed partial or mixed seizures, there is evidence for using gabapentin, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine or topiramate as monotherapy. [41] Lamotrigine can be included in the options for children with newly diagnosed absence seizures. [41]
Side effects of tiagabine are dose related. [6] The most common side effect of tiagabine is dizziness. [8] Other side effects that have been observed with a rate of statistical significance relative to placebo include asthenia, somnolence, nervousness, memory impairment, tremor, headache, diarrhea, and depression.
