New Gods: Nezha Reborn (Chinese: 新神榜:哪吒重生) is a 2021 Chinese 3D animated fantasy action film directed by Zhao Ji and written by Mu Chuan, based on the character of Nezha from the Ming dynasty novel Investiture of the Gods.
The film is based on the character of Yang Jian from the Ming dynasty novel Investiture of the Gods, [2] and was released on August 19, 2022, as a prequel to the 2021 film, New Gods: Nezha Reborn. [3] [4] The film's distribution rights in North America was bought by GKIDS who also produced an English dub of the film. [5]
In New Gods: Nezha Reborn, Li Yunxiang (who is the reincarnation of Nezha) meets with a masked man who he believes is the Six-Eared Macaque, who turns out to be the legendary Sun Wukong and offers to teach him how to control his powers to fight against Ao Bing and his father the Dragon of the East Ao Guang.
The revised story tells the tale of young god Nezha who is reborn as Li Yunxiang, a young daredevil delivery courier, some 3,000 years after the story’s original setting and the Battle of the Gods.
