The men's parallel bars returned as a medal event in 1924 and has been held every Games since. Parallel bars scores were included in the individual all-around for 1924 and 1928, with no separate apparatus final.

The men's parallel bars competition was an inaugural event at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It has been held in every year since its inception. The first event was in 1903, and followed every other year until and including 1913.
Originally women participated at parallel bars competition (like in the men's program). Starting from 1950, at the 12th World Championships, it was replaced with uneven bars competition which has been held in every year since its inception. Three medals are awarded: gold for first place, silver for second place, and bronze for third place.
