Pink Floyd also released a music video, directed by Mat Whitecross, with images of life struggling amidst warfare. The single was released on CD and vinyl on 15 July 2022, alongside a new version of Pink Floyd's 1994 song "A Great Day for Freedom". [4] All proceeds go to the Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund.
The main theme features what were, for Pink Floyd, rather unusual chords. In the final version's key of D minor, the chords are D minor ninth, E♭maj7 sus2 /B♭, Asus2sus4, and A♭sus2. All these chords contain the tonic of the song, D—even as a tritone, as is the case in the fourth chord. [4] [5] [6]
Both appear on Pink Floyd's second album, A Saucerful of Secrets, [10] the first of several to feature cover artwork by Hipgnosis. [11] In 1969, Pink Floyd released a soundtrack album, More, and a combined live and studio album, Ummagumma. [12] Atom Heart Mother (1970) was a collaboration with Ron Geesin, featuring an orchestra and choir. [13]
Throughout the 1970s and beyond, the second-to-last line of lyrics to the song, "Making a date for later by phone", has been persistently misunderstood in Italy, mainly because of Waters' slurred pronunciation ("...fer-lita-pah-fon"), as being "Making a date for Rita Pavone", with a reference to the well-known 1960s Italian pop singer.
"Paint Box" (or, "Paintbox" on later reissues) is a song by the English rock band Pink Floyd, written and sung by keyboardist Richard Wright. [3] [4] It was first released in 1967 as the B-side to the single "Apples and Oranges". The song is about a man who lives in an abusive relationship and has artificial friends.
A rare US single release (Tower 440) contains edited mono versions of this song and "Remember a Day". [5] The single was also released in Japan. [6] The single did not chart. Pink Floyd performed the song live from 1968–69, often as an encore. The song was played by Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in 2018 and 2019. [7]
