Langley Air Force Base (IATA: LFI, ICAO: KLFI, FAA LID: LFI) is a United States Air Force base located in Hampton, Virginia, adjacent to Newport News. It was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the entry of the United States into World War I in April 1917.
Prior to its civil usage, the facility was George Air Force Base, from 1941 to 1992 a United States Air Force flight training facility. The airport is home to Southern California Aviation, a large transitional facility for commercial aircraft. [1] As a logistics airport, it is designed for business, military, and freight use.
The airport is located about one mile (1.6 km) north of California State Route 180, with vehicles using Peach Avenue to connect between the airport and the highway. [64] California State Route 180 connects to all of the other freeways in the Fresno area: California State Route 41, California State Route 99, and California State Route 168. [65]
The city took over the airport at the end of 2013, managing it via the Palmdale Airport Authority. [2] In 2019, the city contracted with outside consultants to develop a new passenger terminal on city property, which was intended to serve the needs of defense contractors based at Plant 42 and Edwards Air Force Base.
