Cathedral High School was founded by Archbishop John Joseph Cantwell as the first Los Angeles Archdiocesan high school for boys in Fall 1925. [3] The school was built on the site of old Calvary Cemetery, where leading families of Los Angeles were buried until relocated at the turn of the 20th century. It is just northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
As of 2024, the pastoral region has 37 parishes, seven high schools, 18 elementary schools and four Spanish missions. It was created in 1986 as part of a plan by Los Angeles Archbishop Roger Mahony to make church leaders more accessible by dividing the archdiocese into five pastoral regions.

St. Anthony High School was founded as a Catholic coeducational high school in 1920 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart and St. Anthony Parish. In 1940, the Brothers of Holy Cross joined the Sisters on campus and St. Anthony became a boys' school and a girls' school with facilities dedicated to each on the same campus.
