After hosting the IMO in Beijing in 1990, the Winter Camp was named the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad in 1991. [5] China has been sending its team to the IMO every year, except for the 1998 IMO held in Taipei, which the Chinese team did not take part due to serious cross-strait tensions.
