The debut production at the Almeida Theatre received mixed to positive reviews. Ann Trenneman of The Daily Telegraph wrote a rave review declaring that the production was "a world-class adaptation of a dark Danish parable for our times". [ 6 ]
The Almeida Theatre production received positive reviews from audiences and critics including four star reviews from The Guardian, [13] Time Out, [14] The Independent, [15] Financial Times, [16] WhatsOnStage, [17] and The Sunday Times. [18] In its review of the Broadway production, The New York Times called the show "disjointed, strangely bland."
The play received excellent reviews with Paul Taylor from The Independent stating that the play was "an unforgettable 80 minutes" [2] while Mark Shenton writing for London Theatre stated "I was bowled over and knocked sideways by Boy. It proves to be stunningly articulate about an inarticulate teenager.
The production premiered at the Almeida Theatre on August 10, 2019. It was created and directed by Robert Icke, designed by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting was designed by Natasha Chivers and sound by Tom Gibbons. [2] It was Icke's final production as the Associate Director of the Almeida. [3]
In April 2012, London theatre company Headlong was set to stage the musical's world premiere [7] at the Almeida Theatre during their 2012–13 season. [8] At the same time a Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise $150,000, [9] to allow them to have a live orchestra and extend the rehearsal period for the production to seven weeks. [10]

King Charles III is a 2014 play in blank verse by Mike Bartlett that premiered at the Almeida Theatre in London. The play is a future history account of the accession and reign of King Charles III of the United Kingdom (who was then still Prince of Wales), and the limiting of the freedom of the press after the News International phone hacking scandal.
