LIM College was founded in 1939 by retail and education expert Maxwell F. Marcuse as the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, at the request of retailers who wanted a school that would teach women about the fashion business and merchandising. LIM became co-ed in 1971 and Maxwell's son, Adrian G. Marcuse, became president in 1972.
This programme aimed to promote the job of product manager for the fashion and luxuries industry, and leads to a variety of careers: supply management, marketing (of products and design in these industries), communications, sales, merchandising and distribution. Many senior managers and business leaders in the industry are alumni of this program.

The Wade College logo has evolved from the first Miss Wade's Fashion Merchandising College one designed by a student in the early 1960s, the second was also designed by a student in 2002/2003; and the third was designed in 2009 by Jason Graham former Graphic Design Chairman at Wade College who is currently LA-based graphic designer.
