CATIA (/ k ə ˈ t iː ə /, an acronym of computer-aided three-dimensional interactive application) is a multi-platform software suite for computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), computer-aided engineering (CAE), 3D modeling and product lifecycle management (PLM), developed by the French company Dassault Systèmes.
CATIA, by contrast, was not only a new software tool, it was a business transformation. Bernard also had a smaller workforce than competitors, and Dassault Systèmes was created later than other well-established companies in this sector, mostly American, such as CADAM, ComputerVision or CALMA, [ 10 ] with hundreds of employees.
Dassault Systèmes' acquisitions continued into 1999, when two CAD software vendors were purchased: Matra Datavision and Smart Solutions. Also in 1999, Dassault Systèmes released CATIA Version 5, which was the first version to be fully implemented in the Microsoft Windows environment. [5]
