Rice School of Social Sciences is an academic school on the Rice University campus. It serves the largest number of undergraduates, with over a third of Rice undergraduates choosing a major in the social sciences. [ 1 ]
Rice University comprises eight schools of academic study, including School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, George R. Brown School of Engineering, Wiess School of Natural Sciences, Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, Rice School of Architecture, and Shepherd School of Music.
The Environmental Studies minor at Rice explores the connections between humans and the non-human world and the interactions of natural and social systems. The minor is organized around core courses that explore the interrelationship between human cultures and their social and physical environments.
The Baker Institute was founded in 1993. James Baker envisioned a public policy institute where “statesmen and scholars work[ed] in an atmosphere of intellectual excellence and strict nonpartisanship to develop fresh, informed approaches to policy,” while the idea for a public policy institute on campus came from Rice University political science professor Richard Stoll. [5]
Established as the Office of Continuing Studies in December 1967, the school provides a bridge between Rice University and its Houston neighbors. Initially, classes were developed to teach area professionals about advances in their fields. From 1968 to 1972, between 150 and 200 students per year attended technical and business courses.
Before joining Rice University, Stein taught at University of Georgia for a short time. At Rice University, he has served as Department Chair of Political Science and Dean of School of Social Sciences, among other appointments. [3] He has been Lena Gohlman Fox Professor of Political Science since 1996.
Joseph Patrick Dumit (born September 3, 1966) [1] is an American cultural anthropologist and science and technology studies scholar. He is a professor of anthropology and science & technology studies at the University of California, Davis, where he was formerly the director of the Institute for Social Sciences and Science and Technology Studies.
Religious Studies Review (RSR) is the journal of the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion (CSSR), which is based at Rice University. The journal is published quarterly by John Wiley & Sons. RSR reviews over 1,000 titles annually in review essays and critical notes. [1]
