Kaleidoscope are an English psychedelic rock band from London that originally were active between 1967 and 1970. [1] The band's songs combined the elements of psychedelia with whimsical lyrics. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The band were also known at various times as The Sidekicks , The Key , I Luv Wight and Fairfield Parlour.
In 1997, Daltrey worked with Universal Records on the compilation album Dive into Yesterday (Fontana 534003-02), a collection of tracks from Kaleidoscope's two 1960s albums. The band re-emerged from obscurity with reissues of their albums, beginning in 1987; their "lost" double concept album , White Faced Lady (UFO BFTP 001), was released in 1991.
The album was re-released in 2011 by Sunbeam records, with all the original artwork and a 12-page inner book with new photos and recording history written by Peter Daltrey. The album was released again in 2017 on 180-gram "tangerine" orange vinyl to commemorate the album's 50th Anniversary.
In 1994, Daltrey's manager, Richard Flanzer, made a $450,000 deal to record and film the two nights of Carnegie Hall performances with Tim Brack (President of Continuum Records) with direction credited to Michael Lindsay-Hogg. The CD was released on Continuum 19402 USA. Edited by Alan Miller, a DVD was released 14 July 1998. [3]
Tommy and Quadrophenia Live is a 3-disc DVD box set that includes performances by The Who from their 1989 (the Tommy portion) and 1996-1997 tours (the Quadrophenia portion). Whilst the Tommy part of the set had been already released on VHS , material from the Quadrophenia Tour had not been commercially available previously.
Work on As Long as I Have You was started shortly after Going Back Home was released in March 2014. Following his seven-month battle with viral meningitis, Daltrey planned on shelving the project until Pete Townshend heard the early mixes and expressed interest in playing rhythm and lead guitar.
Transatlantic released a music video for the song "Shine" on December 2, 2013. [5] Two weeks later, the band's cover of the Yes song "And You and I", a bonus track on Kaleidoscope, was released on record label Inside Out's SoundCloud page. [6] A video for "Black As the Sky" was released on January 27, 2014, to coincide with the album's release. [7]
Kaleidoscope started out being broadcast between 22.30 and 23.00 each weekday night (allowing it to include live reviews of first nights). Early presenters were alternately Kenneth Robinson and Brian J. Ford.
