On Kuraigana Island, Mihawk declines Zoro's request to train him, but after realizing that Zoro defeated the Humandrills, Mihawk finally decides to train him. Zoro then proceeds to begin his training by fighting the Humandrills again.
Roronoa Zoro (ロロノア・ゾロ, Roronoa Zoro, spelled as "Roronoa Zolo" in some English adaptations), also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro (海賊狩りのゾロ, Kaizoku-Gari no Zoro), is a fictional character created by Japanese manga artist Eiichiro Oda who appears in the manga series and media franchise One Piece.
Zoro, struggling with a severe injury received from Mihawk and armed with only one sword, fights the six-sword-wielding Hatchan and Sanji uses karate on the fish-men with swordfish-man Kuroobi. Genzo and Nojiko try to save Luffy from drowning, and further inland Usopp duels with the long-mouthed fish-man Choo.
When Mihawk arrives at Baratie, Zoro, who has idolized Mihawk since childhood, challenges him to a duel. Zoro viciously loses the duel and is severely wounded, though Mihawk lets him and Luffy go free out of respect for their resolve. A humbled Zoro swears to Luffy that he will never lose again before losing consciousness.
