Worldwide Winners was begun by radio and club DJ Gilles Peterson during his tenure on BBC Radio 1.In 1998, he brought his show Worldwide to the station and began a quarterly radio segment called All Winners Special in which he replays what he considered the previous few months' best new tracks from out DJing or the show.
A second full album, Pimp of the Year, was released in spring 2006, showcasing innovations that showed a development of their sound, as well as one or two tracks that marked a new departure. 2006 also saw the official release of Pimp Master in Europe on Compost Records and the UK on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings label.

In 2018, over 70 artists including Basement Jaxx, Wiley, Example, Jax Jones, Stefflon Don, Aurora, Young Fathers, Rae Morris, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Trevor Nelson, and Gilles Peterson performed at the festival. Over the two days, LIMF paid homage to Liverpool's ever-evolving relationship with music and its creative cultural diversity.
