The Ganatanra Parishad (GP) or the All India Ganatantra Parishad (AIGP) was a regional political party based in Orissa state in eastern India from 1950 to 1962. This political party was formed by the former rulers of the erstwhile princely states and big landlords. [ 1 ]
Kanaklata Devi (30 September 1909 – 14 February 1986) also known as Rani Saheba was an Indian politician from Odisha. She served as the Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly representing the Baramba Assembly Constituency as a member of the All India Ganatantra Parishad.
6 National parties along with All India Ganatantra Parishad and 3 registered unrecognized parties took part in the assembly election. Indian National Congress emerged as the single largest party but without clear majority while All India Gantantra Parishad emerged as the main opponent to the Congress party.
Initially Ganatantra was published from Bolangir, later moving to Cuttack. [2] It started as a weekly newspaper, later converted into a daily. Surendra Mohanty was the editor of the newspaper. Ganatantra was published by Rajendra Narayan Singhdeo, the maharaja of Bolangir, and was politically aligned with the Ganatantra Parishad party. [1]
Once released from jail he founded the Koshal Utkal Praja Parishad, which eventually evolved into the All India Ganatantra Parishad. [2] He became a member of the Working Committee of the party. [1] In 1952 Pandey was elected to the first Lok Sabha from Sambalpur, obtaining 70,622 votes (54.97%). [4]
