The Green Berets is a 1968 American war film directed by John Wayne and Ray Kellogg, and starring Wayne, David Janssen and Jim Hutton, based on the 1965 novel by Robin Moore. Much of the film was shot in the summer of 1967.

During World War II, Kellogg was a US Navy Lieutenant with the O.S.S. Field Photographing Branch [2] where he became acquainted with John Ford.. Following the war Kellogg went to Hollywood working in special effects for 20th Century Fox, eventually heading the unit. [3]
