Santa Rosa County was created in 1842, three years before Florida became a state in 1845. The Town of Jay was known in the early 1800s as "Cobb Old Field", but was later known as "Pine Level". Jay Funeral Home, now known as the Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, is an historic building and funeral home located in Ottumwa, Iowa, United States. Local architect Archie Eaton designed the building in the Mediterranean Revival style. The two-story brick structure was completed in 1929.

John Moss Field first went to Florida in the 1830s during the Second Seminole War. [2] Later, he moved with his wife Eliza and their family to Merritt island from Macon, Georgia in 1868. [ 2 ] Within a year, the family returned to Macon, except for John Robert Field and Samuel Joseph Field, two sons of John and Eliza.
