Shere Khan (/ ˈ ʃ ɪər ˈ k ɑː n /) is a fictional Bengal tiger in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and its adaptations. He is often portrayed as the main antagonist, itself an exaggeration of his role in the original stories, in which he only appears a third of the time. [1] Shere Khan is named after Afghan Emperor Sher Shah Suri. [2]
However, Shere Khan soon arrives and tries to kill Mowgli. He tries to fight, but soon loses his nerve after realizing how terrifying the tiger truly is before Baloo intervenes. Bagheera helps Baloo and the wolf pack fight Shere Khan long enough to allow Mowgli to lure the tiger over a pit of fire, into which he falls to his death.

Shere Khan the tiger begins stalking the group when fellow guide Buldeo and two other soldiers kill some animals for sport, which is against the jungle law. Shere Khan attacks the camp at night, killing the two soldiers and Nathoo, who dies trying to fight him off to defend Buldeo.
