The Al G. Barnes Circus was known as a "Wild Animal Show," and in December 1923 the Barnes Circus Zoo opened at the corner of Washington Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue in Culver City. The Zoo cost $79,000 to build and at the time was kept open even when the show was touring.
