Going to a tile place and hiring our own licensed contractor was cheaper, and frankly the guy seemed way more competent. We had an issue in one room with uneven floor and the Home Depot guy told us we’d be stuck with a sloped floor.
It was expensive but I paid over 12 months, no interest, with a Home Depot Card. I am very happy with the results. The only delay was with the flooring. Someone at Home Depot never put in the order to the flooring manufacturers, but once that got taken care of (many, many phone calls later, including several to the manufacturer), it was very good.
The one thing we won't (can't) really do ourselves is install new flooring. We are pulling up the disgusting old stained carpet that is currently in the home. We will need new flooring in a total of 4 rooms, plus a hallway and probably on a staircase. (2) buy flooring from Costco (likely bamboo) and hire a friend who knows how to install it.

So if the normal price to istall something is $100, and HD is charging $90 for the same job. The subcontractor probably gets $45 and HD gets $45. If you ask someone to do a job for $45 that normally is $100, they are either going to have to cut corners, or do a crappy job to make up for the lower fee.

Local Lowe’s and Home Depot both charge $250 to install. Not sure about home depot, but Lowe’s charges $50 to takeaway old appliance. local appliance store is also charging $250 to install but nothing for removal. We would have to pay extra for trash pick up.
But we needed all 3 replaced at once. Fridge, dishwasher, and stove. We lucked out because not only were the appliances on sale for 30% off, but they were an additional 25% off if you purchased 3 appliances at a time. We had saved $5,000 for all 3 appliances and ended up getting about $5,500 worth for $3,000.
This is true, I just got a new gas range, and used Best Buy, it was here in 3 days installed. Same day, my 15 year old dryer went, I am looking around now and Home Depot and Lowes don't have many dryers. I miss Sears. Best Buy is fast here I think because there is a big warehouse in central NJ. Not sure if that's why.
