Athani taluk is the largest with an area of 1,997.70 km 2 and Raybag taluk is the smallest with an area of 958.8 km 2. Belagavi division, formerly Belgaum division, is one of the four divisions of Indian state of Karnataka. The division comprises the districts of Bagalkot, Belgavi, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttara Kannada. It covers a geographical area of 44,538 square kilometres (17,196 sq mi) and had a population of 13,499,721 at the 2011 census. [1]
The composition of Belgaum Lok Sabha seat has undergone several changes. In 1962, there were three assembly seats in the constituency from Belgaum, named Belgaum City , Belgaum I and Belgaum II . Then the map was redrawn and some seats like Khanapur , Uchagaon and Bagewadi were added to Belgaum seat as part of renaming.

Belgaum Dakshin Assembly seat (also called Belgaum South) is a seat in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly which came into existence in 2008 when the electoral map of India was redrawn. It is a part of Belgaum Lok Sabha constituency in the Indian state of Karnataka .
