John Henry "Ace" Cannon (May 5, 1934 – December 6, 2018) [1] was an American tenor and alto saxophonist. He played and toured with Hi Records stablemate Bill Black's Combo, and started a solo career with his record "Tuff" in 1961, using the Black combo as his backing group.
The record entered the charts and reached No. 23 on the Hot 100. He was the first of the Burnette Brothers to have a hit record. This success spurred Coral Records to dig into their archives and release two old Rock and Roll Trio recordings as "Blues Stay Away from Me"/"Midnight Train" (Coral 9–62190).
This success was to lead to one more single record release by Coral. In April 1960, following Johnny Burnette's success on Liberty Records as a solo artist, Coral released "Blues Stay Away From Me" backed with "Midnight Train" (Coral 62190), under the name Johnny and Dorsey Burnette. This record, like its predecessors, however, failed to chart.
