Carlisle United Football Club (/ k ɑːr ˈ l aɪ l / kar-LYLE, locally / ˈ k ɑːr l aɪ l / KAR-lyle) is a professional association football club based in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. The team competes in EFL League Two, the fourth level of the English football league system. They have played their home games at Brunton Park since 1909.

The 2020–21 season was Carlisle United's 116th season in their history and the seventh consecutive season in EFL League Two, Along with League Two, the club also participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and EFL Trophy.
On 6 June 2016, Carlisle United announced their provisional pre-season schedule. [55] Two matches were announced to be played behind closed doors. One match was against Queen of the South F.C. (Result: 2–3 loss) on 5 July 2016 [ 56 ] and the other is against Bury F.C. on 26 July 2016.

The club was formed on 17 May 1904 at Shaddongate United's annual general meeting [1] where the club's members voted to change the team's name to Carlisle United. The newly formed club initially played at Milhome Bank and later at Devonshire Park, finally settling at their current home Brunton Park in 1909.
