  2. Wall Connector or 240V Charger adapter | Tesla Motors Club

    teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/wall-connector-or-240v...

If you wanted a cheaper 240v option, get a NEMA 6-20 adapter ($35) and a Hubbell 6-20 outlet ($25). Charge is about 15-16 mph but that is adequate for most. But again, the correct answer is the Tesla Wall Connector as in the end it is the safest, easiest, most hassle free option and the cost difference is negligible.

The Tesla Wall Connector is fully weather rated. The Wall Connector now comes with a 24 foot charging cord. You can purchase a weather housing for the 14-50 receptacle (check on Amazon) but it will not be fully weather rated as moisture can still get into the receptacle. The charging cord on the Mobile Connector is only 18.5 feet in length.

Ideally, you will have a 14-50 outlet installed. Properly installed, that will have a 50a breaker, proper wire gauge, and this will allow it to handle 40a continuous load. Your included UMC will charge your car at 32a when plugged into a 14-50 outlet. If near the panel, it's approx $50-100 USD in parts.

  5. Tesla wall charger that plugs into Nema 240 volt wall outlet

Hard-wire a Wall Connector-- If you've already got a NEMA 14-50 outlet, an electrician should not have trouble hard-wiring a Wall Connector to the wiring currently used for the 14-50 outlet. The resulting unit won't be as easily removed, of course, but it'll work just as well -- maybe better.

  6. Most common 240v outlet - Tesla Motors Club

The 14-50 has 2 equaly sized hot contacts, the 6-50 has one smaller and one larger, but they are both rated for 50A If you price out 6/2 NM vs. 6/3 NM you will see the difference in cost A 14-50 can also be used by a visiting RV, while a 6-50 can be used by a visiting welder Whatever you decide, I would still own the 14-50 adapter for on the road charging, that is the most popular 50A outlet ...

  9. 240 volt NEMA 14-50 outlet installation - any advice?

    teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/240-volt-nema-14-50-outlet...

Using 30+ years experience as an electrical engineer, I felt confident installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage. Fortunately, distance from breaker panel was only 18 ft and 6 gauge THNN wire was used inside PVC conduit. Since Tesla recommends leaving UMC plugged in all the time, I bought an inexpensive NEMA recepticle at Home Depot.

  10. 20amp 240 for home charging??? - Tesla Motors Club

    teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/20amp-240-for-home...

Canada. Oct 30, 2018. #1. About 2 feet from where I park I have 20amp 240 plug. I am tempted to just buy the adapter and use this as my charger when I need a home charge. I drive about 60 miles most days so overnight I should be able to top up my car easily. I have a charging station at work (but spend as much time out of the office as in it).

Three-wire, 120/240 volt single phase power used in the United States and Canada is sometimes incorrectly called "two-phase". The proper term is split phase or 3-wire single-phase. The two live outputs of a 3-wire single phase transformer secondary winding are properly called "legs".
