The oldest brick house in St. Louis County, Missouri. It was built by Thomas Sappington who was the most prominent member of the Sappington family who settled in St. Louis. While the influence of the German settlers remains, Dutchtown rapidly began to diversify in the 1990s. Half of Dutchtown residents today are Black, and significant numbers of Latinos, Asians, and other immigrants call the neighborhood home as well.
The house has the dual significance of being an "exceptionally early stone house" and a "rare example of the early Gothic Revival style in St. Louis."
