This new historical records library opened to the public on June 1, 1979. On April 9, 1987, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Today, it is the Historical Records Library operated by the office of the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court, and serves as the official archives of the county government. [10]

A bridge over Manatee River was first proposed by the Manatee County Board of Commissioners on September 9, 1909. [2] [5] The county proposed a $250,000 road bond, equivalent to $6,065,000 in 2023, to pay for construction of the bridge. [6] This proposal was abandoned due to opposition and lack of funds.
