Strong mesocyclone on a thunderstorm near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, that was analyzed as fitting the characteristics of a TVS.It was associated with a tornado.. A tornadic vortex signature, abbreviated TVS, is a Pulse-Doppler radar weather radar detected rotation algorithm that indicates the likely presence of a strong mesocyclone that is in some stage of tornadogenesis. [1]
Classic-style hook echo of the F5 1999 Bridge Creek-Moore tornado.. A hook echo is a pendant or hook-shaped weather radar signature as part of some supercell thunderstorms. It is found in the lower portions of a storm as air and precipitation flow into a mesocyclone, resulting in a curved feature of reflectivity.
Date: 1994 and 1995: Location: Tornado Alley: Also known as: Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 1: Outcome: Documented an entire tornado, which, in conjunction with deployment of the NEXRAD system, helped the National Weather Service to provide severe weather warnings with a thirteen-minute lead time, and reduce false alarms by ten percent.
A tornado watch is typically less severe than a tornado warning and encompasses a larger area like multiple counties and states. It serves as a signal for people to prepare in case of an emergency.
The algorithm for this is the tornadic vortex signature (TVS) or the tornado detection algorithm (TDA). TVS is then an extremely strong mesocyclone found at very low level and extending over a deep layer of the thunderstorm, not the actual tornadic circulation. The TVS is, however, indicative of a likely tornado or an incipient tornado.

The Federal Signal 3T22 and 2T22 are dual-tone, mechanical outdoor warning sirens made by Federal Signal Corporation (formerly Federal Sign and Signal Corporation) from 1952 through the early 1990s. Both have a very recognizable design, with a ten-port rotor (chopper) on the bottom with ten cones (horns) and a 12-port one on top with twelve cones.
This siren is similar to Federal Signal's Thunderbolt series. Only a single unit remains in service in Milwaukee, WI.
