Robert Ian "Chief" Taylor (born January 24, 1945) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played 45 games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1972 and 1976. He was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers teams that won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975.
In Season 6, Taylor supported Brenda's campaign to become the next Chief of Police, and when Johnson retired from the LAPD, Taylor was visibly emotional. Following the departure of Chief Johnson, Taylor is promoted to Assistant Chief and begins pushing a new policy of making deals rather than going to trial to save the LAPD money.
O'Connor wanted the chief to undergo heart surgery in the storyline, but the Taylor and Moessinger came up with this storyline instead.
