In 1938 two elementary schools were constructed, Ocean Avenue School in Northport and Larkfield School in East Northport. In the 1950s, tremendous population growth caused the construction of Dickinson Avenue Elementary School, as well as Fifth Avenue and Norwood Avenue Elementary schools, and East Northport Junior High School.
