William Robert Mikkelson (born May 21, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League from 1971 to 1977. Mikkelson is known for posting the worst plus/minus rating in single-season NHL history at -82 for the Washington Capitals in 1974–75.
The NHL Plus/Minus Award was a trophy awarded annually by the National Hockey League to the ice hockey "player, having played a minimum of 60 games, who leads the league in plus-minus statistics." [ 1 ] It was sponsored by a commercial business, and it had been known under five different names.

In Sauer's first professional season in 2002–03, he made the jump to the NHL with Anaheim and was amongst the league leaders for worst Plus/Minus. The following year, on February 21, 2004, Sauer was traded to the team that drafted him, the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for Martin Škoula. [2]
