Steve Walsh (born June 15, 1951) is an American singer, musician and songwriter, best known for his work as a longtime member of the progressive rock band Kansas. He retired from the band in 2014. [1]
The roots go back — way back — as these things tend to do, but by 1970 they were performing as Kansas with the key personnel who would find success together when Leftoverture hit in 1976, propelled by the success of the single "Carry On My Wayward Son."

Throughout his career with Kansas, Walsh rose to prominence as the lead singer on four of the band’s classic hits titled ‘Carry On Wayward Son,’ ‘Dust In The Wind,’ ‘Point Of Know Return,’ and ‘All I Wanted.’
In 2014 Kansas co-founder Steve Walsh bowed to the inevitable and left the band. He’d been lead singer for almost their entire existence and so left a huge gap in the line-up. In 2016, they told Prog how they’d filled it and returned with The Prelude Implicit, their first album of the 21st century.
Walsh was in a number of local groups prior to his joining Kansas, most notably a group named "White Clover" which ultimately became Kansas. The band White Clover toured relentlessly and sharpened their brand of distinctively American, hard-rocking progressive music.
Walsh announced his exit on June 30, and the band later confirmed that Kansas' Aug. 16 show in Sioux City, Iowa, will be his final appearance.
Fusing the complexity of British prog rock with an American heartland sound representative of their name, Kansas were among the most popular bands of the late '70s, with many of their hits becoming staples of AOR radio playlists.

The album's co-producer and co-writer, Zak Rizvi, was subsequently named as a full member of the band, giving Kansas a second full-time guitarist for the first time since Steve Morse's departure in 1991.
