Marriage Certificates. Sacramento County can only issue marriage certificates for licenses issued in Sacramento County since 1850. To order marriage certificates for licenses issued in another California county, contact the California Department of Public Health’s Office of Vital Records.
Online public access to the index of recorded documents allows you to search for documents recorded in Sacramento County since 1849. The most commonly recorded documents are: Deeds. Deeds of Trust. Deeds of Reconveyance. Assignments of a Deed of Trust. Liens.
Sacramento County can only issue birth certificates for children born in Sacramento County since 1850. Certificates for births prior to 1850 are not available. Newborn certificates are available approximately 4 weeks after the birth date. Call our office at 874-6334 to verify that the record is available prior to your visit.

Our office conducts civil marriage ceremonies for a fee of $49. Ceremonies are conducted weekdays at all of our office locations by a Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages on staff. You must obtain a marriage license before the ceremony can be performed.
Documents, such as grant deeds, deeds of trust, and liens, recorded in Sacramento County since 1850, are available for viewing at either of our office locations. Sacramento County's index of recorded documents is available online to perform a search by party name and year of recording.
