Varsity Arena, located at 299 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario [1] is an indoor arena that opened on December 17, 1926, and is primarily home to the ice hockey teams of the University of Toronto, the Varsity Blues. It also hosted the Toronto Toros of the WHA from 1973 to 1974 and the Toronto Planets of the RHI in 1993.
It is home to the university's Varsity Blues basketball and volleyball teams. The facility was completed in the fall of 2014 at a cost $58 million, [ 3 ] with $22.5 million coming from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and $11 million from the Goldring family , for whom the centre has been named. [ 4 ]

The University of Toronto Rowing Club represents the Varsity Blues at local and international regattas. The UTRC was founded on February 10, 1897, and throughout the years has had many successes, including Royal Canadian Henley Regatta victories, OUA titles, and a silver medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The TMU Bold men's ice hockey team (formerly the Ryerson Rams) is an active ice hockey program representing the TMU Bold athletic department of Toronto Metropolitan University. The team has been active since 1948 and is currently a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference under the authority of U Sports .
The arena was previously home to the Toronto Phantoms of the Arena Football League (AFL) and the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. Scotiabank Arena also hosts other events, such as concerts, political conventions and video game competitions. The arena is 61,780.5 square metres (665,000 sq ft) in size.
In ice hockey, the Toronto Maple Leafs have several rivalries with the oldest existing clubs in the National Hockey League, including the Montreal Canadiens, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Bruins. The Maple Leafs also have a rivalry with the only other Ontario-based team in the NHL, the Ottawa Senators.
