On 1 January 1993 Teletext Ltd released a new version of Teletext on TV, with holidays a major part of this revamped offering. [citation needed] In December 2009 Teletext Ltd removed its services, including Teletext Holidays, from ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, leading to a fine of £225,000. Teletext Holidays remained available on Freeview. [2]
A number of similar teletext services were developed in other countries, some of which attempted to address the limitations of the British-developed system, with its simple graphics and fixed page sizes. This is an incomplete list of teletext services available on different television channels around the world.
The Chairman of Teletext Ltd was Chris Letcher who acquired a stake in Teletext Holidays from parent company A&N Media. From 1 December 2013, Teletext Holidays moved from advertising holidays from 14 holiday suppliers (including Qwerty Travel, Lowcost Travel Group and Hays Travel) to working with one supplier, Truly Travel.
18 March – Channel 4 broadcasts in-vision teletext pages for the first time. Two magazines are shown – 4-Tel on View and Oracle on View – and in fifteen minute bursts which are repeated several times each day prior to the start of each day's transmissions. Teletext pages are only shown on weekdays. [5]
Teletext, or broadcast teletext, is a standard for displaying text and rudimentary graphics on suitably equipped television sets. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Teletext sends data in the broadcast signal, hidden in the invisible vertical blanking interval area at the top and bottom of the screen. [ 3 ]
