State Route 210 (SR 210), also known as Ross Clark Circle or simply "The Circle" to locals, is a route overlaid by US 84, US 231, and US 431 encircling Dothan, Alabama in Houston County. For many years, the SR 210 designation appeared on state road maps but was not actually signed as such.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 582 square miles (1,510 km 2), of which 580 square miles (1,500 km 2) is land and 1.8 square miles (4.7 km 2) (0.3%) is water. [3] The county is located in the Wiregrass region of southeast Alabama.
According to 2023 U.S. Census data, the average population of Alabama's 67 counties is 76,246, with Jefferson County as the most populous (662,895), and Greene County (7,341) the least. [7] The average land area is 756 sq mi (1,958 km 2). The largest county is Baldwin (1,590 sq mi, 4,118 km 2) and the smallest is Etowah (535 sq mi, 1,386 km 2). [8]
The Dothan Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties in southeastern Alabama, anchored by the city of Dothan, county seat of Houston County. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 145,639. [1]
The district covers 18 acres (7 ha) and portions of 6 blocks in Dothan's historic commercial district. At the time of the nomination, it contained 68 contributing properties, however many have been demolished in the intervening years. Dothan was founded on the site of Poplar Head Springs, which was an important crossroads in the Muscogee lands
Ashford is located slightly northeast of the center of Houston County at (31.184032, -85.235286 U.S. Route 84 passes through the southern part of the town, leading west 9 miles (14 km) to Dothan and southeast 24 miles (39 km) to Donalsonville, Georgia.
The museum was founded in 1988, in response to a magazine article that named Dothan as one of the worst places in the United States to live. [3] It hosts traveling exhibits, as well as its permanent collection of American contemporary and pop art, including works by Josef Albers, Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, and Frank Stella.
