For this follow-up study, Caudill conducted intensive interviews with hospital staff, recorded daily staff meetings, studied doctors' and nurses' notes, and interacted with patients. Caudill identified several challenges inherent in the structure of the Psychiatric Institute, and offered strategies to remedy these problems.
